**V. Procedure**

1. One method of calculating the voltages and currents in a three-phase circuit is the per phase representation.

2. The figure below is a per phase representation of a three-phase Y circuit (both generator and load).

3. Enter the circuit below into Simulink using the Simulink and SimPowerSystems libraries.

4. The value for the source resistance is 0.06 Ω, and the source inductive reactance is 0.12 Ω (transmission line).

5. The value for the load resistance is 12 Ω, and the load inductive reactance is 9 Ω.

6. For the Y system, using the per phase circuit shown, find a) the magnitude and phase for the line current (IL); b) the magnitude of the load’s line and phase voltages (VLL) and (VφL); and c) the total real, reactive, and apparent power consumed by the load.

7. Enter the circuit below into Simulink using the Simulink and the SimPowerSystems libraries. Notice that, for the model, you must convert the inductive reactance to inductance.

8. To make the scope receive two inputs, you must go to the scope parameters under the General tab and set the number of axes to 2. To make use of the scope data later on, go to the Data History tab and select “Save Data to Workspace,†and under “Format,†select “Structure With Time†from the pull-down menu.

9. Make sure and set the powergui block to continuous.

10. Run the simulation by clicking on the Play arrow.

11. Double click on the powergui, then click on the “steady state voltages and currents†to see (IL) and (VφL).

12. Make sure to include your circuits in your report.

**Figure 2.2. Per Phase Circuit Modeled in Simulink**

13. Double click on the scope to see the resulting waveforms.

14. The oscilloscope waveforms are very basic and unsuitable for formal reporting, but we saved the raw data if the scope is properly configured.

15. Go to the Matlab command window and type in “Simplot†(ScopeDataFileName) to access your data for a more professionallooking plot. You will need to edit the axes and the figure properties, insert a title, and insert x and y labels to provide an acceptable plot for your report. You can also save you new plot configurations for future assignments.

16. You must now reconfigure your circuit, as shown in the figure below, to find the real and reactive power. Remember that you are working on a per phase basis, so you must multiply your results by three to get the total powers consumed by the load. Hint: The u bar is the complex conjugate.

17. Repeat steps 10 through 15 for this circuit configuration.

**I. Questions and Discussion**

1. Did your calculated values agree with the ones found using Matlab, Simulink, and SimPowerSystems? If not, why not?

2. Explain the mathematics behind the circuit configured to solve for power.
